The Junior
League of Springfield, Inc. is an organization
of women committed to promoting volunteerism, developing the potential of
women and improving the community through the effective action and leadership
of trained volunteers. Since 1959, Junior League members have served our
area in many different capacities. Giving freely of time, talents and
resources, League members share the goal of making a positive difference
in the Springfield community.
After serving as one of the first room sponsors for the Ronald McDonald House
of the Ozarks on Primrose St. in 1986, the members of the Junior League of
Springfield joined us in our mission once again in 2002 when the Ronald McDonald
Care Mobile was created by contributing time, expertise and resources to
ensure the successful launch and operation of the "Tooth Truck". Nearly
30 volunteers worked hand-in-hand with our professional staff on "Tooth
Truck", helping the children feel comfortable and welcome during their
visits.
The Junior League volunteers coordinated a special project over the summer
of 2003 that culminated in a presentation to Ronald McDonald House Charities
on October 1. Each child who visited the Tooth Truck had the opportunity
to create his or her own work of art on a quilt square. Thanks to the
incredible work and contributions of Carmen Whorley and D.J. Maas, the squares
were then stitched into a beautiful quilt. The quilt was presented to Ronald
McDonald House Charities President & CEO Bonnie Keller and then-Vice
President Debbie Kinser during a special gathering and is permanently displayed
at the Ronald McDonald House on Primrose St.
The Junior League contributed $25,000 each year to the Ronald McDonald Care
Mobile in 2003, 2004 and 2005, along with their priceless volunteer support.
Their efforts to help "Tooth Truck" have provided a solid foundation
to both create and continue this essential program for at risk children in
our community. In honor of their exemplary support of the Ronald McDonald
Care Mobile, the Junior League of Springfield is recognized externally on
the "Tooth Truck" as a "Founding Sponsor".
