Volunteers

The primary role of volunteers serving as Dental Care Advocates is to instill in children that they alone can maintain good oral health. Through their interaction with children who need the services of the Ronald McDonald Care Mobile, there is also the wonderful opportunity to ensure these kids know how unique and valuable they truly are.
Volunteers serving in the Dental Care Advocate position escort children from
their classroom to the Ronald McDonald Care Mobile for diagnosis and treatment
one child at a time. Dental Care Advocates ensure that dental hygiene supplies
are provided for the child and provide one-on-one instruction with the
child
to ensure
proper brushing and flossing habits are formed. This volunteer also waits
with the
child scheduled for treatment, often creating artwork, reading and assisting
the child with homework. Additionally, volunteers serving in this capacity
assist dental professionals in contacting the child’s parents and/or
guardian if further treatment consent is needed. Volunteers also provide
post treatment instructions to the child’s teacher and/or parent. Dental
Care Advocates share fears and concerns expressed to them by the child
to the dental professionals on the Ronald McDonald Care Mobile.
